Dental implants are the perfect solution to restore your smile if you have missing teeth. If you are looking to permanently replace your missing teeth, going through the dental implant procedure is your best option. In order to help you prepare for your dental implant procedure, we will take you to step by step to better understand what happens before, during, and after the treatment.

Preparation For Dental Implants
To determine if implants are right for you, a consultation is needed. During this appointment, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums and evaluate bone density and quantity. This may involve x-rays and a CT-Scan to ensure there is sufficient bone structure before the implant procedure.

During The Procedure
Most dental implants can be placed with the use of a local anesthetic. If you are nervous or getting multiple implants, then sedation can be an option for you. At Prestige Oral Surgery, we will discuss with you the different forms of sedation available.

Dental implants are typically placed in a three-stage process. First, we will place the implant underneath the gums. Once healing is complete, some of the gum tissue will be surgically removed to expose the implant. When we are confident that the post has integrated with your jawbone, an abutment will be placed. Your dentist will then have a custom crown made and will attach it to the implant, resulting in a stable and natural looking smile.

After The Dental Implant Procedure
After your surgery, you may experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort, but we will provide you with antibiotics or pain medicine if necessary. While you are healing from your surgery, and after, it is vital to maintain a proper oral health routine. Brush and floss your teeth as you normally would, taking special care to clean around the dental implant. You will have follow-up appointments with our office to make sure that everything is healing properly. Once everything is healed, you will be able to smile, speak, and eat with renewed confidence.
